Cheesy Tries It: First Edition – DIY Charcoal & Glue Blackhead Mask

So, I saw this on YouTube (shoutout to beautybyjosiek, and I HAD to try it for myself! I mean, who doesn’t want to make a goopy mess of shiny squid ink- looking stuff and slather it on their face?! It looked too good to be true, so naturally I had to try it… just to make sure it wasn’t an instant miracle like some people were saying!

First, I’ll explain the “process”:

1)      Gather the ingredients!

·       Elmer’s glue (like the kind kiddos use, ya know non-toxic and such)

·       Activated charcoal pills (I personally bought mine at Walgreens for $20.99. It had 100 capsules in it and they were called CharcoCaps.)

·       A small bowl to mix in

·       Something to stir it with (I used a wooden coffee stir-stick because I’m weird about using spoons and such with non-edible things.)

2)      Put the glue in your bowl. I used a small amount (maybe 2 tbsp.) and even had some left over after applying to my nose and chin.

3)      Open one charcoal cap into the glue. Just softly twist it, and it will come open. Be careful because it kind of poofs out everywhere! Get as close into the bowl to the glue as possible… might be a good idea to use a deep bowl!

4)      Stir it all up to make a black, shiny, goopy, crazy mixture!

5)      Steam the pores you are going to apply the mixture to with a hot towel. (PS- avoid areas with hair “like the plague” according to beatybyjosiek. I did not try it anywhere with hair because if someone says something like that… I’m just going to listen to them and heed their advice!)

6)      Apply the mixture to your nose/chin. I used my finger. Apply a semi-thick application. You definitely want to leave room for those icky black heads to soak up into the scary black goop!

7)      Wait. Til it dries. Like a while. I didn’t time it, but I would have to say at least a good 45-60 minutes. (Which was very hard, because my husband NastyJ is HILARIOUS and I was trying so hard not to laugh and crack the mask!)

8)      Remove – in an UPWARD motion to make sure you get all the gunk out.

9)      Check out all the nasties that are on the dried goop! Eww!

So, after doing all of that…

REVIEW:

I did not have the same results as other people… but I also only used ONE charcoal capsule in my mixture! I also did not let my nose dry completely on the tip because it had been around and hour and I was ready to hit the hay!
I am a few days out from trying this though, and I must say that any acne I had in the chin area really cleared up although my blackheads are still there. I am definitely going to do a round two with this and try it with two charcoal capsules to see if that helps to pull those nasty suckers out of my face! I will probably also video the next round so I can show off the awesome process! Hey, science can be fun! :)
